Churchill free picks Sept. 13 horse racing

CHURCHILL

RACE TWO
#4 Maybelle Slew (A) 23 She’s 8 years old Can a new trainer coax wins out of her? Maybe against these. Win 3/1.
#5 Slavic Princess (A) 23 Sprinter with some tactical speed. Hasn’t exactly faced Wise Dan, and wins are as cheap as can be. Hobby trainer.
#2 Miss Ziggy (B) 22 Off and dull. Closer who needs a lucky trip. After 9 years and 108 races, we know that she’s most likely to finish 3rd.

RACE THREE
#5 Ocean Bertie (A) 27 A worthy single, perhaps.  Toss that last Grade 3 race that put her at 15/1. Trainer overmatched her there.
#4 Courageous Julie (B) 26 Lucas dragged her to Saratoga, put her in impossible races. Now she’s back to where she won her 1X.  Finally he and Zayat have to accept that this is not a graded-stakes fillie. Not yet anyway. She’s realistically placed here, at maybe 5/1.
#1 Tiz Windy (B) 26 Misplaced in a sloppy Iowa Oaks,  this filly has one win against weak company  at Churchill. A plodder who might swoop in on exhausted speed horses. But 3/1? No no no no no. Double that. At least. Win 6/5

RACE FOUR
#5 Pearl of a Girl (A) 25. Trainer Ward may now be convinced she doesn’t like grass. Her last Churchill dirt sprint was masterful. Win 2/1.
#7 Beautiful Dancer (B) 24. Some at Churchill may dismiss her because she’s shipping from a junk track. But 7/1 or 8/1 might be profitable.

 RACE SIX
#2  Da Don (A) 25 Enough speed for a sprint, for sure.
#7 Malibu High (A) 25 Doubts, though, since no wins in fast-track sprints.
#8  Montezuma Express (B) 24 A good stalker, but 9/2 ML may be too low.
#6 Double Ours (B) 24 New trainer, long layoff, 3/1 ML is ridiculously low. Try 6/1 or better. Win 8/5
#1 Total Immersion (B) 24. Layoff and dull works for hobbyist trainer.

RACE NINE The Open Mind $100,000
#1 Janis’s Joy (A) 29. Monster bet. Churchill crowd may be punished for ignoring a Canterbury mare. She’s 6-for-7 win/place at the distance, and has the speed figs. Listed at 8/1, true range should be between 3/1 and 4/1.
#3 Flower Spell (B) 28 Another Canterbury horse, stakes win last but she beat nobody.
#7 Afternoon Tango (B) 28 New trainer. Awesome closer, with 6-for-7 win/place at the distance. Has the classiest recent win of any horse in this contest.

RACE TEN
#10 Cougar Ridge (A) 28 Very competitive since claimed and put on the green stuff.
#2 Free World (A)  28 Turf speed horse who loves to win, and by huge margins. Win 3/2
