Canterbury May 18

The R ratings are based on speed, class, distance and surface. A horse that is more than 3 points behind the leader has a very poor chance of winning. Over time, such horses are exceptionally bad bets.
Bold-face indicates the top horses to consider, the ones within 3 points of the leader.

CBY One
#5 Cachemass Creek R35 1/1
>Not much competition, layoff a question.
#6 Mischief Mo R31
#1 That's Ray's Tiger R29
#8 Third Rail R29 win 2/1
#2 General Lafayette R26
#4 Banker's Way R26
#7 Swift Progress R26
#3 Toast in the Park R22
The crowd is likely to focus on #8 Third Rail, the Hawthorne shipper. But from a class and speed angle, Third Rail seems no match.

CBY Two
#3 Stone Crazy R31 3/2
> Mac's maiden, 0-for-4, but in from OP.
#4 Finding Candy R29 3/1 win 4.60
>New trainer, has tried in 2 races.

#9 Dakota Smokey R22 xx
#5 Union Buster R21 xx
#1 Smokin Mojo R17 xx
#8 Forrest Colors R16 xx

CBY Four
A fiercely competitive chaos race, the toughest on the card. Eleven are in the gate, and eight of them could win.
#2 Cosmic Girl R33 6/1
>Never been at CBY. Toss turf clunker.
#4 Pacific Tsunami R32 7/1
>Nebraska old timer with 15 wins.
#7 Bellagio Road R32 7/1

#1 Code of Kings R29 xx
#6 The Quinnster R25 xx
#9 Dean Doesn't Know R19 xx
Don't be surprised if a big price horse hits the wire.

CBY Six
Another chaos race 3/1 minimum odds. Five true contenders make for a tough race.
#4 Gracias R33 3/1  win 4/5
>Three-for-five at Shakopee.
#6 Prophet's Song R33 4/1 place 7/1

CBY Seven The 10,000 Lakes
The odds will be too low on Mac Robertson's Heliskier. He certainly is the best horse on the card.
#2 Heliskier R39 2/1. win 1/5
>The undefeated Monster of Canterbury.
#5 Desert Alley R37 7/2
>Two wins in a row and Mac's plan B.
#8 Samendra R36 5/1
>Four wins at this track.
#6 Speakfromyourheart R35 xx
#7 Eurasian R33 xx
#1 Bobble Dolt R32 xx
#9 Freedom First R30 xx
#3 Willow Parish R22 xx
#4 Sugar Business R20 xx

CBY Eight
Chaos ensues because many in here are of equal ability. Any horse below 4/1 is a bad bet.
#8 Sun Country R32 4/1
>But Bernie's not a great layoff trainer.
#1 Sue's Stormy R32 4/1
>Neither is Tony.
#9 Bet Your Life R31 9/2

#2 Stormy Bull R29 10/1
>Fast developing 3yo off long hiatus.
#4 Sam Wayne R28 xx
#6 Bold Raider R27 xx
#3 Sheer Trick R26 xx
#5 Lil' Appolo R22  xx
Because the top three are evenly matched and better than all the rest, an exacta box might be in order.
