Horse race handicapping, Belmont April 27

> It seems that a great many trainers were anticipating the opening of Belmont, because the races are stuffed with good horses. This means chaos and unpredictability in almost every race.
In chaos races, there are too many good horses, and too few weak ones, for any one runner to dominate. The favorites are run down and exhausted by competitors, leaving longshots to swoop in.

> The median price of a winner of any race tends to be just under 3-1. I'm willing to bet anyone that today's median price at Belmont will be much higher, 4-1 and perhaps even 5-1.

>In a ratings system based on final speed and class, "normal" races range from a rating of 9 to 24. Chaos races start at rating 25 and go on up through 60 or so for the most chaotic. With that in mind, the ratings are presented here to help players judge how tough the race will be to handicap.

>The fair odds and winning chances are given. The prospects for the favorites in these races are well below the normal standard of 33%.
