Speed, mid-post bias.

119 Next Adventure 92, won last, first route after a 7F. 2/2 recent dirt.
117 B. B. Best, 94 place last.
117 High Brass. 83, won last
116 Air Lord 87 show last, off, new green trainer. 5/18 though, so a gamer.
116 Caixa Eletronica 87, show last, really a 7F horse.
The crowd favored Mr. Unstoppable at 5/2.
He finished 19-back in his last race, rated 5th in prime power.
Their logic must have been the drop from allowance to claimer.
After a slow start, he worked his way up to show, 5-back.
Based on his recent races, he is 4-1 to win from the back of the pack.
He looked stoppable to us...
We focused on the form horses Next Adventure and BB Best.
Next Adventure had been claimed at $25,000 and raised to $40,000 after a win.
The former trainer was 30%, the new trainer 9%. They ran this horse in its first route.
He went off at 8-1. He was a 4-1 shot based on recent races. He has only won as the favorite.
His rating 119@92. He never got into this race. I guess that's why the trainer is 9%.
BB Best went off at 9/2. He had been off 8 months but with an 18% return and Prado (17%) on his back. His rating was 117@94. He had already won a route. As speed horse he enjoyed the bias, and the pace figs predicted him up front at 2nd call. His figs were best of all for both the last two races. He was best in both early spd and final spd in his last race, and 2nd in prime power. His last races were both 117s, the par for this race. He also enjoyed a post bias. He stalked the leader through hot fractions and then took over going into the stretch. 2nd call furlongs went off at 22.
Air Lord, who showed last time, came up for the place. The 5*4 exacta paid 40-1.
TWO, CLAIMER SPRINT, 7F
115 B L'S Papa Coo Coo. 85, place last. Nearly won at 11/1
115 B L'S Papa Coo Coo. 85, place last. Nearly won at 11/1
won at 5-1.
The crowd favored Stirrup Excitement, with new trainer Peter Walder, a 26% man, and Julien up on his back. However, this horse faded in the stretch last time, to finish 4th, 4-back. That was an allowance and he was dropping to $10,000 here, his lowest level ever. But that does make you wonder about the wisdom of playing a dropping horse. It was a 26-second sprint stretch that defeated him last time... This time, a 28-second stretch time knocked him back to place.
B L's Papa Coo Coo was the lone form horse, and outrunning his odds in his last race was a good sign. His form was improving over his last two races. He enjoyed the speed bias but had a bad post. He was only one off the d/s list, and best in SLR. He was second in average class and just one off the class par. The pace figs put him as absolute leader at calls one and two. He took over in a 28-second stretch.

123 Tale Of Ekati 107, Tagg and Edgar. 1/1 distance. Monster place, furious pace, trouble. Much the best horse in the Cigar.
123 Now A Victor 106 horrible last. 1/1 distance.
122 Ikigai, 110, 2 straight, never run this far.
122 Ling Ling Qi, 96. Pletcher and Elvis. 2/4 distance.
120 Bold Start 102, McPeek and Cruz. 1/2 distance.
119 How's Your Halo 98, bad last, 0/4 distance.
The crowd picked Tale of Ekati at even money, and so did I. Tale was in form, with a record of winning tough races against odds. He was 1/1 at the distance. He was a Tagg horse with Prado up, so no trouble there. But Tale wins from the garden spot, and the pace figs had him last at 2nd call. Indeed, he was well back entering the stretch and never had a chance. The speed bias was against him, but this had never been demonstrated since he'd never raced at Gulfstream before.
How's Your Halo was not in form, but went off at a ridiculous short field price of 47-1. He had a 3rd-back race of 121@102, which put him within class and speed range. He was second on the d/s list. He enjoyed the speed bias while Ekati did not. He figured to be one or two at 2nd call. And that's exactly where he was. A horse that figures to be on the pace at 2nd call probably shouldn't be 47-1...
FIVE TURF CLAIMER 8.5 Furlongs
115 Fulfilling. 82, 4 good races then tired in the stretch
113 Princess Town, 83 faded to show. Won at 9/2.
113 Wild Tigress, 79 placed.
112 Mi Helena, 74. Won maiden claimer against weaker, wet-fast off the turf.
111 Many Kisses, 69, won maiden on turf.
The crowd like the entry, Fulfilling-Entertaining. Although Entertaining was in form, we passed with the knowledge that entries are always overbet. Entertaining, the lower rated but more formful horse, stalked Princess Town the whole way and missed by a neck at 3-2.
Meanwhile, Princess Town, beat in a 25-second stretch to finish 3rd last time, went off at 9/2. She fought off Entertaining during a long stretch drive, after having led the whole way -- in a turf race! Her last race was improving form, definitely. She had an 8% turf jock, though. And best turf and distance speeds. She enjoyed a bias in both gate and surface. She figured to be 1 or 2 at the second call. She was tied for top SLR and early pace. She was 2nd in class.
EIGHT MONEY ALLOWANCE SPRINT
120 Imperial Council, 98, awesome in only two races/ Won 3/2.
119 Primary Witness, 96. Awesome win as firster.
116 Z Day, 91 mud win maiden. Placed..
115 Prince Joshua, 84 good show, off, 5% return.
114 Lookin Left. 82 maiden win on 2nd try.
The crowd loved Imperial Council and so did I. Price: 3/2. He stalked a 22-second pace and won. He had first-rate connections in McGaughey and Prado. Won on a hand ride at Belmont after placing in first Saratoga maiden. Had highest spd fig and best dirt spd. Was 4 months off with a 19% return. He enjoyed a post and speed bias. He was first in class but did not figure to run on the pace. (Although he actually did.) He was 2nd, one back on the d/s list. He topped the list at best spd/distance. We played him in exactas with Primary Witness and Z Day, and that paid off at 10-1.
NINE HALLANDALE TURF STAKES
117 Tamborim, 90, winner. good 2/2 turf. Mott/Edgar 17% turf.
116 Beacon Hill Road, 87, almost won at 40-1. 3/4 good turf. 16% JT turf.
117 Into My Soul, 87 winner. good 3/3 turf. Corny only 12%, but won with this horse.
115 Adari, 87, closed to place, quite the closer. 5/5 good turf. JT 16% turf.
116 Lime Rickey, 87 place, and steadied. 4/6 good turf. JT 15% turf.
The crowd made Into My Soul the light favorite at 5-2.
Duke and Tamborin were both 3-1 and Lime Rickey was 7/2.
All the horses were in form.
That setup called for an exacta box.
A 4*3 box was $12 and paid $23, or about even money.
This beat hell out of playing the four to win, place or show, any of which barely broke even.
