AP Arrow tries the turf for the first tine in a storied career. He hasn't been in great form, and although he's the most accomplished in the race, I'd only take him if he was oh, 10-1 or better.
[1] Pickapocket has the pace bias in his favor, best speed last race, and is best at distance/surface. He just missed in a fast-pace race facing company good enough to keep him at 11-1. His turf wins have been strongest...
RACE SIX: ANY AT A PRICE...
It's very hard to separate the top horses here. Best to watch the board and see which one the crowd lets drift over 5-1. In order of preference:
[9] Baletti Best win 116. Won last very wide, from behind, at 5-1.
[12] Big Stick Best win 116. 4/7 lately. Garcia a plus. Post hurts.
[2] Expansion New better trainer. Best win 114.
THEY'RE 1-2-3 ON THE TOTE AND NO BARGAIN...
BUT THE #3 SUNSHINE KID ALMOST AS GOOD AT 18-1 AND NEW TRAINER
LAYOFF AT 20% RETURN...
RACE 7.
[6] Motovato Elvis always a plus. Won an easy (113) race for fun after Wolfson took charge.
GOING OFF AT 4-1
NO CLUE ON THIS RACE SO WILL SKIP
RACE 8, The Canadian Turf.
The star of this show is Delightful Kiss. I hope the crowd bets him down, because I doubt this is his kind of race. The question is, who is the main threat?
[7] Vanquisher is a turf horse and Garcia is a turf jockey. Best win: 119 on turf. Has DK by 13 speed points on turf, and yet has higher ML odds.
[4] Buffalo Man has a 119 win. Should have won last race, a torpid affair, and did not, so form is a question.
[8] Just as Well has a chance, but will likely be bet down, being listed as 3/1, and a giant speed figure in his last race. He did give Kip Deville a run for his money last time. And has a good stretch rush. But at low odds? No.
[5] Delightful Kiss. best win 119, on dirt. Bad post hurt his last race. Likes Calvin. The problem is, Delightful is not really a turf horse, nor is Borel a turf rider. The horse's turf speed figure is just awful, compared to the competition.
RACE 9 FOUNTAIN O YOUTH. ITM horses go to Florida Derby, so a lot's at stake. With young horses and big money, I'm playing multiple horses, looking for longshots.
[7]Beethoven has two route wins, the best at 116. 12-1? Yes! And this is Calvin the rail rider's kind of race. You can't hate a horse that wins half his races, can ye?
[3] Notonthesamepage Elvis! Toss that poly race at Keeneland, and you'll see the true record. Speedy enough to beat the post bias. Big win last at 116.
[10] Taqarub 3/3 but in sprints. Also won a 116 by big margin, beat nobody, but did overcome a stumble at the break. Breeding says he has the lungs for longer. Sharp works. Would jump at the 6/1 ML.
[8]Breakwater Edison. Okay, did lousy at GP last time. But his Aqueduct G3 win (117) was the best of all in today's race. His trainer is not the greatest. But at double digit odds, this is a horse.
[9] Captain Candyman Can. Theoretically has the best win (118) a G2, but slow paced. Has been beaten by Beethoven once. Likely to be bet down...
BEST TRI OR EXACTA: 3,10,9 AND ADD 8 FOR A SUPER.
