BETTING THE CLASSES

Allowance racing offers the best bet for chalk players.
The median winner pays $2.70 to one. 61% of all winners are priced at 3-1 or less.

The next best general class is the claimers. Median: $2.90. Percent at 3-1 or less: 57%

Surprisingly enough, it's a big, bad jump to the next best class: Handicaps and Stakes.
Their winners come in a a median of 3.40. That's 25% less reliable than Allowance races.
Just under half -- 49%-- of the winners are 3-1 and under.

Maiden Allowances are nest. $3.50 median. These two score at 49% under 3-1.

Maiden claimers are the least relaible, and best bet for longshot players.
Median: $3.70. 50% of races are won by 3-1 horses. But the average payoff is over 7-1, compared to 5-1 for the other classes.

It may seem like a small difference, but if you can bring in your horses 61% of the time as opposed to 49%, that could turn into a pile of money over time.
