Totals wins 4 for 9.
1 passed race
$18 payback: $19.40
Race 1: A nice starter allowance with no bad horses. No horse has any record at all at this distance. Stratostar has the edge in form, but War Tracer is 4/6 on the Polyturf. War Tracer, tho, has been off 6 months. We go Stratostar, despite his lack of wins on the Poly.
Stratostar paid $4.80
Race 2: Two year olds. Come on, guys.
Race 3: Cayenne Red is 2/3 on the Poly, gets Gomez, has early speed in this sprint, and has won almost half his 29 races.
Cayenne won and paid $5.80
Race 4: No horse had done anything good on the Poly. Barbican, despited high speed figs, hasn't really been a threat to win in 3 Level 2 allowances. Shift in Power has gotten better in all 4 of his races but has been off 2 months. Great Point, son of Point Given, has the most raw talent and damned near beat Barbaro in last year's Holy Bull. High Blues, horribly mismanaged, finally gets a better trainer. Deputy Indy is 0/4 at this level, but has the talent. In other words, this is a tough race. There is no early speed whatever. Japengo at 6/1 gets out of the gate best and could steal this race.
Japengo led but faded in the stretch.
Race 5: Cosmonaut had been tough in four Grade 1 races in a row and drops drastically into this allowance. He has no competition and may go off at 2/5. Anything close to even money would be a bargain.
He won at 4/5 and paid $3.60
Race 6: Hawaii Calls. He is a genuine even-money horse in this race.
Had a shot at 5/2 but no gas in stretch.
Race 7, The Giants Causeway. Matz takes over Costume Designer, who's 10/1 in the morning line. Prado gets the call. This horse is the only one to have won a non-restricted handicap.
He ran wide at 7/1.
Race 8: Travel Team at anything above even money. Biancone/Leparoux are 30% bringing horses back from layoff, and this one has more talent than any other in the field.
Travel Team paid 5.20
Race 9, the Lexington: Belgravia. Likes the Poly and has a ferocious stretch run. Speedsters Forty Grams and Soaring By may wear each other out in Belgravia's favor.
40-1 blowout.
Race 10: Got a Question is a bargain at 2/1 or over.
No bet at 9/5 and fails as favorite.
