Where's Russell? He's at Oaklawn? How do I know who to bet on?
1) Solid Fuel vs. Sloat Blvd. I don't trust Solid Fuel's jockey, even with that win last time.
Solid Fuel scratched, Sloat placed at $1.
2) Good Time'n Dixie. Sherman has found a soft spot for a horse who could be winning handicaps.
Placed.
3) Eastlake Avenue if you believe the morning line. Some day there's going to be a race when Hollendorfer trains every runner. He's got THREE in here. The last race vs. Glorification was in the slop, and Glorification faded. If track is fast, I will bet on whichever offers the better odds.
Track was awful. Neither won. Speed was dying in the stretch.
4) Pass, too many firsters.
5) Bridge Too Far has had 6 good fast track races in a row, and easily makes this class jump.
Again, fading speed.
6) Longshot time, maiden turf. I'm going with Lisa Lewis' 12-1 longshot Devil Cielo. This horse is improving, has at least some turf experience, where most in here don't. Lisa has a 25% win rate in 2nd-over-turf races. Yes, it's a big class jump, that's why the big price.
Showed at 12-1.
7) Miyadi claimed and just missed with Hampton Way. Since there are only 3 horses who can logically content, I might go Hampton Way, Work Force, Mr. Davis in a box.
Bingo! 47.80 trifecta.
8) The two class horses, Mamacita Chula and Key Rose, love to show. I like Montreux, who swept into a ferocious pace last time and pulled away by 4.
Right horses, wrong logic. Key rose won.
9) Huitussi makes a huge drop from his SoCal races, a new better trainer, an aggressive jockey, blinkers and a shorter race. A grandson of Unbridled and a Mexican mare!
Big deal, won and paid $2.80.
