Keeneland Friday October 13

RACE 1: Boombaby (#4) has run 9 good races in a row. If he's the favorite he'll be a weak one. #3 Bid Made has as good a chance. I would bet whichever offers the highest odds, or 3,4 over 7 in the exacta. This is one of those races where there really isn't a dominant horse. The Morning Line reflects this, citing Bid at 5/2 and Boom at 3/1.
Bid Made $4.40

RACE 3: Most of these racers are coming off layoffs. Not Sterling Gold. He has the most lifetime wins, at 12, and has run two consecutive wins at a 92 Beyer. Expect the favorite to be (#7) Without A Doubt, a teriffic horse but... he was claimed in his last race for $62,000 and now has been dropped to a sale price of $50,000. This is a dubious trainer move, and Doubt has been off for almost two months. There is a doubt about Without a Doubt, the ML favorite. Sterling is 3/1.
Without A Doubt, $5.80 Turns out the trainer snuck one in there, and faked everybody out. Well, not everybody. Somebody cashed on this one.

RACE 4: This race is marked by the presence of two classy closers, Cloudy's Knight and Watershed Event. We're going with Cloudy, since Watershed has been resting lately. Both are a cut above the field. Cloudy is listed as 5/1, and if that happens, I'm plunking.
Ballast, $7.00

RACE 6: Gently (1a) has the class, the form and the speed, and I would bet him right down to even money. He's ML favorite at 5/2. Durajazz is 10-1, which looks like a ridiculous overlay. I'll put him #2 on any ticket.
Wildcat Fan $6.40

RACE 7: Tricky Mon (#12) almost tricked his way to winning an allowance last outing, and none of the others in this race can boast that. The Beyer leader, #10 Joe Got Even, may be get a lot of action at the windows because of his Beyer, but he hasn't proven himself outside of maiden company. ML favorite is Irish Ace, 3/1. This is based on his two good calls in the G1 Hopeful.
Joe Got Even, $9.40

RACE 8: Lady Pegasus (#3). Consistent winner on her third race back from vacation, coming back to her great form. ML agrees, 5/2
Golden Locket, $20.80. Our Lady finished fourth.

RACE 9: THE PERRYVILLE. What a tough race and what good horses. This is one of those races with no dominant horse, so we'll watch the tote. We want at least 5-2 or 3-1 on any horse in a race like this. #10 Latent Heat is our first choice. All 7 of his lifetime races have been astonishingly good. Praying For Cash (#11) beat Latent at Monmouth this summer, but that was just one race. I call Praying as the #2 choice if Latent is bet down. High Finance (#12) is the Beyer leader, and can win off a layoff, so he is our the third choice if the other two are bet insanely. High Finance leads the ML at 7/2, with Latent right behind at 4/1.
Midnight Lute, $16.20.

RACE 10: This is racing at it's lowest level. Miss Quackerjack (#6) has huge Beyers compared to this field, but we're not going to fall for that one. In these low level races, Matty Fine stands out aas having a bit of class, and possibly the ability to close on this field. But as the ML favorite, Matty is likely to be bet down. Probably the better course is to PASS THE RACE.
Best advice of the night!
Mentow $16.60

BOTTOM LINE:
We went 0-for-Friday night at Keeneland...
We talked ourselves out of some obvious winners.
Hey, it happens
