RACE ONE: (6 furlongs)
Crayda out front, with Boss Tiffany and Complete Lady.
(Honeymooning snuck in there.)
Those led through the 1/2 pole.
Stretch: Crayda (1.80) dropped out. She's the favorite, but form going sour and last race was a fade to last, 14 back.
Then it was Boss Tiffany and Honeymooning together.
Boss Tiffany beat her by two, and the two of them were 7 lengths in front of the field for an exacta.
Crayda (1.80) was bet on the huge class drop, but a fade, a layoff and a poor return record by the trainer all were reasons to toss her. She was pretty sure to lead and fade.
Boss Tiffany (3.20) also a fader was cutting back to a sprint, a move that showed positive ROB and 26% wins for the trainer. She was trying something new after 3 failed routes. Levine was the best trainer by far in this race.
Honeymooning (P2) (4.00) was laid off by Contessa, who's mediocre at returns. Not an early speed type, ever figured to get the lead.
Predict the fade of Crayda, and this race opens up.
RACE TWO 7 FURLONGS, MAIDEN CLAIMER
Speed:
New York Citi E4 bad fade, new trainer
Astoria Sweetheart EP4, off 26% return
Karakorum Karen E4 off, 7% return
Anything but Blond E1 bad in last two, turf and mud
1st call, as predicted, New York Citi, Karakorum Karen, Astoria Sweetheart. Karen (5.00) took over in the stretch and the three finished the tri. They were the only horses under 10-1 and the tri paid $79.50 for $12 box.
Astoria Sweetheart in 8 races, never able to put together the stretch run. So the layoff horse had the advantage here as New York Citi weakened in the stretch.
RACE THREE 6.5 furlong starter allowance.
SPEED:
Mulligatawny EP7 95-101
Mama's Temper Ep5 70-84
Southern Sass (13.60) E8 93-96
My Fair Ep3 85-78
Wakeup With Makeup Ep2 88-87
Five of six horses had speed. Looks to be a 2-way battle up front.
Southern Sass at first, then Mulligatawny bulling through.
Southern Sass has sped and faded 24 of 26 lifetime.
Nope, Mulligatawny (2.70) wire to wire, as predicted in the E1 numbers.
