SARATOGA
1st: Loconia (4) The stalker with the best credentials.
Steadied in traffic, finished 4th at 4-1.
Saratoga may be the graveyard of favorites, but it's very unlikely the gravediggers will be busy for these big 3 races. The dominant horses face little challenge in any of them.
{Pick 4} and {Pick 6} races start here, and these 3 races could key a nice ticket....
7th [Baruch GII] Cosmonaut (6). English Channel and Better Talk Now aren't in this race, so Cosmonaut has the class all to hisself.
Finished 5th as favorite.
{Daily double begins}
8th [Kings Bishop GI) Hard Spun (3) is a wonderful horse if you don't require stamina in the stretch of a long race. Larry Jones should have long ago cut him back to this distance. He won his last 7-furlong race by 7-plus lengths. Teuflesberg is tough but I put him second in the exacta, since the bias plays to early speed types like Spun.
Paid $4.60
9th [Travers GI] Street Sense (4) He's 3/5 in the morning line which means he'll probably pay 15 cents to the dollar when the bridge jumpers jump in. But he simply has no competition in this race. I would put his chances to win at 90 percent. Still, at this price there's nothing to win, so the only thing that makes any street sense is to wrap this bad boy up in the exotics.
Paid $2.70
10th: Pick4 and Pick 6 horses: This is a really tough, competitive race and could have any number of winners. Appealing Sophie (1), Graeme Six (4), Allude (6), La Traviata (8). That's 4 horses for a $4 pick 4.
La Traviata won at 85/100.
11th: Fifth leg of the pick 6: Garfine (4) and South Pacific (9)
Both finished way back
12th: Final leg of the pick 6: Makin Me Famous (3), Alright Now (13), and Zipperoo (7)
Zipperoo won at 210/100
That gives you a pick 6 of 1 x 1 x 1 x 4 x 2 x 3 or $12.
MONMOUTH
1st: R Hallograeme (5). He will be long gone before the others realize they're in a race.
Dead heat, paid $4.20.
{Pick 3 begins}
4th: Bold Trust (3). Ditto. In all four of the hot chalk races here today, the story is the same. There is a speed bias at Monmouth, and the proven pace of each horse has no match in the field.
Placed at 4/5
5th: Chucker (1A) Ditto.
Paid $3.60.
$100 Exacta $530. Trifecta $910.
6th Witch Woman (2) Ditto.
DQ'd in to win at $3.80.
ELLIS
Fillers for the low-takeout pick 4: (3 x 3 x 1 x 1, a $4.50 ticket.)
9th: Rovic's Wealth (2), Watchinggirlsgoby (4), You Got Me Rocking (6)
You Got Me Rocking won at 4/1.
10th Editor's Quest (3), Desert West (5).
Missed.
No hot chalk until...
11th: [Breeder's Cup Turf] Quite a Bride (4) Best speed close to the rail on this extremely biased track. The Bride has never turned in a bad race at this level. Anything over even money would be a steal.
Paid 3.80.
$100 Exacta $370, Trifecta $680
12th: Voice (10) Best of these 2-year-old maiden fillies on the turf, only race was mediocre but against a better class. If beat, it will probably be a dark first timer.
Placed at 130/100.
ARLINGTON
{Pick 3, Pick 4 begin}
2nd: Forest Fever (1A) Drops, top early speed and last 4 races were good enough to win this.
Scratched.
{Pick 3 begins}
3rd: Isabull (2) Will improve after monster debut, needs first lasix and gets it.
Scratched.
4th: Royal Leah (1) She's among the best horses, does well for her jock, and in this race the rail is the place to be.
Way back at 280/100.
5th: An impossible maiden, the only answer would be "all."
9th [Arlington Sprint HCP] In Summation (5)
There's an inside speed bias here that will help Pirates on the Lake (1) But In Summation's Grade 1 victory at Del Mar eclipses anything his competitors have ever dreamed of. Will he like Arlington's Polytrack? Maybe, maybe not. But he ate up Del Mar's.... you'll be lucky to get 3/5, so it's time for some exotics, preferably with bombs.
I'd include Pirates on the Lake because he's the second best horse, and has the rail bias.
Off Duty (2) has the early speed.
Star by Design (6) at 12/1 in the morning line, is my choice for bomb. He's run well in some really tough cheaper handicaps.
Dead Heat with Pirates, paid $2.20. Nice exactas and tris.
$100 exacta $450. Trifecta $1090.
BAY MEADOWS
1st: I Dream of Genius (5) Owner-trainer drops this recently-claimed horse two levels after a just-miss. Trainer is 40% with this kind of move.
Paid $3.20
3rd: Epic Power (2) Russell jumps aboard super-consistent handicap winner. SomethingaboutLaura cannot keep pace with him. Now Victory is the only worry.
Placed at 130/100
5th: Snowbound Tiger (5). Very cheap two year olds, and the Tiger is the only one with any real racing experience, plus an early speed style that may give him an easy win.
Showed at 290/100, all kinds of loose horses at the gate.
8th: What a Finale (9). Looks like a battle of two early speed types, which he wins.
Placed at 70/100.
CANTERBURY
2nd: Causing Grief (3) 0 for 9, but meets weak field, gets awesome turf jock.
No bet, yielding turf.
{Pick 6 begins}
3rd: Rubiano Ruby (1) Speed on the rail should help on speed-biased track.
No bet, low odds, placed at 70/100.
5th: {Pick 4 begins} Prospect Green (2) or Monsieur Danseur (6)
Both lost.
6th: French Prize (1) Inside post, speed bias but suspicious drop after muddy fade.
Scratched. Which indicated French Prize was unsound.
{Pick 3 begins}
7th: Go Go Diablo (5) 3 strong wins vs. bad post, first time turf and huge class jump.
No bet, yielding turf.
8th: Heza Wild Guy (7) Toss the handicaps; he's won 3 claimers in a row.
Paid $5.00
9th: Jet Cape (9) Finally meets a field of clunkers he can whup.
Just missed at 230/100.
DEL MAR
{Pick 4 begins}
7th: Guns on the Table (10) Although Gone Grand (7) has the bias and what looks like a better race, the quality of competition wasn't what Guns faced.
Way back at 190/100.
{Pick 3 begins}
8th: [The Solano Beach] Spenditallbaby (6) Had bad trips in the last two, which were graded stakes, and still ran great races. His competition hasn't been racing at his level.
Placed at 230/100.
9th: No hot chalk.
Probable winners: Attack Jack (2), Pocosin's Game Boy (3) , Warrens Pepe (11), Dakota Padre 12.
Nope.
10th: Look Deep (12) Speed should win this kind of race, but Look Deep is a deep closer who in the last two races has really figured it out. None of these could have withstood his charge in those last two runs.
Paid $5.20.
$100 exacta $890.
PRAIRIE MEADOWS
Ah, nite racing in Des Moines.
2nd: Trifecta box. Ghazi Up, Red Hot and Gold, Tomcat Row.
Two outta three.
{Pick 3}
4th: Maya's Storm. (9) No contest.
It really wasn't. Paid $2.60.
{Pick 3}
5th Camela Carson (6)
Paid $3.80.
$100 Exacta $420 Trifecta $850.
6th Sur Sandpit (6)
4th at even money.
7th Wild L (7)
Paid $2.80.
